This Activity Report captures the activities performed in March 2014.

WP2: Project Management

WP Leader: CNR - Participants: NKUA, FAO

  • Various exchanges with the EU Biodiversity and LTER Communities;
  • Introduction of iMarine to key stakeholders involved in setting up new data infrastructure initiatives in South Africa during the RDA Conference in Dublin (26-28 March);
  • Preparation of the “iMarine data platform for collaboration" Workshop held on 07 March in Rome;
  • Review of the first version of the “iMarine data platform for collaboration workshop” post-report;
  • Discussions for the preparation of the “Ecosystem approach to marine and fisheries data management” Workshop, to be held on 4 April jointly with ICRI2014;
  • Preparation of the iMarine presentation to the by-invitation-only Copernicus Workshop organised by the Commission held in Brussels on 13-14 March;
  • Participation of the SB members in weekly phone calls dedicated to discuss progresses on the Sustainability Plan (5 and 14 March);
  • Monthly SB meeting (18 March);
  • Monthly PEB meeting (18 March);
  • Day-by-day scientific and technological coordination and supervision.

WP4: Communication, Dissemination and Training

WP Leader: TRUST-IT - Participants: CNR, NKUA, FAO

The WP leader should report here a summary of the activities performed in the reporting period

  • iMarine data platform for collaborations - event preparation: paper questionnaire production + tweets & Facebook posts during the event to promote the event + streaming set up for the morning session + Adobe Connect set up for the full day
  • iMarine data platform for collaborations - post event activities: 8 presentations uploaded on the website and on SlideShare; creation of the press release: iMarine: Calling for a partnership model to sustain collaborative e-Science in support of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries http://www.i-marine.eu/Content/iMarineHightlights.aspx?id=678bad79-784f-40a8-91eb-02ffbb9c40c4&li=0; Promotion of the press release on social networks and media channels; Editing of 8 post event videos and videos publiucation on Youtube and on the iMarine channel.

WP5: iMarine Data e-Infrastructure Deployment and Operation

WP Leader: CERN - Participants: CNR, NKUA, FAO

for T5.1

Activities related to gCube 3.0.0 production deployment:

CERN participated to ISGC conference in Taiwan, with a talk on the D4Science Infrastructure and its Virtual Research Environments

Activities related to Data Transfer performed by CERN ( the related WP is over so they have been reported as WP5 activities):

  • A new Library has been developed by isolating some of the Agent Service code, in order to perform transfers/access using standard protocols and to be integrated by other services( SM requirements for https access) 2007
  • VFS-SMP URI provider supports for output streams was implemented
  • support for SMP URIs on the storage management portlet 2608

CNR and NKUA have been keeping up and running the provided nodes hosting development, testing and production GHNs..

NKUA has Executed decommission procedure for site GR-09-UoA from EGI and completed JAVA7 upgrade to all NKUAs' production infrastructure

CNR has deployed a new production host for the Cotrix service.

The Accounting components have been extended by CERN to include the records from Statistical Manager and Trendylizer portlets 2623

WP6: Virtual Research Environments Deployment and Operation

WP Leader: CNR - Participants: ERCIM, NKUA, FAO, FIN, UNESCO, CRIA, IRD

For Virtual Research Environments Operation:

  • MarineSearch has been deployed;
  • The previously deployed Virtual Research Environments have been maintained in operation;

For resources and tools provision:

  • Statistical Manager has been revised to rely on Featherweight Stack;
  • COTRIX development continued, e.g. UI unit tests, link model design, bug fixing;
  • CRIA developed an activity plan characterising future activities. These activities regards facilities for data cleaning. This plan is under discussion by the SB.
  • IRD has revised the documentation on Tuna Atlas indicators as well as the WPS XML characterising them;

For common interfaces and tools:

  • Statistical Manager has been enhanced, e.g. SOAP revised, DwCA import revised;
  • The SM widget has been revised to better integrate it in other clients, e.g. Tabular Data Manager;
  • New SM geoprocessing algorithms has been developed, e.g. to extract datasets and perform signal processing;
  • Social Networking facilities - Post has been reinforced, e.g. explicit notification on posting, support for text formatting, bug fixing;
  • Social Networkign facilities - News Feed has been reinforced, e.g. continuous scroll back, bug fixing;
  • Tabular Data Manager has been reinforced, e.g. duplicate check and replace tasks;
  • Users Management has been revised to reinforce the integration with the HomeLibrary Groups Management;
  • Data Indexing portlets has been revised, namely to deal with the new Index;
  • SearchPortlet has been revised to deal with SearchClient;
  • VREInformationSpace Editor has been revised for bug fixing;
  • some helpers applications have been developed, e.g. to deal with session expiration;


None


  • marineSearch has been released;
  • Existing VREs have been maintained;
  • Community Tools development continued;
  • Several portlets have been enhanced and released in gCube 3.1;

WP7: Enabling-technology Integration and Distribution

WP Leader: E-IIS - Participants: CNR, NKUA

  • Integration of gCube 3.0.0 ended on 31st March
  • A total of 55 integration builds have been executed for this release (26 during March)
  • Completed the ugrade of the testing infrastructure to gCube 3.0.0
  • Integration of gCube 3.1.0 started on 31th March
  • Operation and maintenance of the ETICS service.
  • NKUA continued to manage the review process of the admin and developer's guides. (Data below are as of 14th April).
    • Developers' guide: xx% (was 56% in mid-March)
    • Administrator's guide: xx% (was 50% in mid-March)


  • Network issues (firewall re-configuration) from 13th to 20th prevented upload of artefacts to staging repository slowing down the integration activity.


  • gCube release 3.0.0

WP8: iMarine Data e-Infrastructure Enabling Technology Development

Completed in October 2013

WP9: Data Management Facilities Development

WP10: Data Consumption Facilities Development

WP Leader: NKUA - Participants: CNR, FORTH, TERRADUE, FAO

During March, FullTextIndex and ForwardIndex capabilities have been merged in the new RESTful Index Service. Also, gCQL parser was further improved in terms of exploiting the underlying capabilities of the index mechanism. Smartfish Index is now exploitable by gCube Search and is going to be released after integration with new Index Service. Moreover, Resource Registry was refactored to discover the new type of Index Service. gCube Data Transformation Service has been turned into RESTful Service and corresponding client libraries of the service have been updated. At last, D11.4 Application Programming Interface Software was delivered

X-Link library was improved in terms of offering enhanced connectivity of the identified entities, as well as their enrichment with semantic information. XSearch wiki page was revisioned and the next version of the MarineTLO-Warehouse (v4) is under preparation.
