This WP6 Activity Report described the activities performed in April 2012 by Beneficiary and Task.

T6.1 Virtual Research Environments Operation
CNR Activities

FAO Activities
FAO performed activities that are part of maintenance of the VREs, i.e. collected feedback on their current scope, data-management facilities, and re-use in the wider EA-CoP 'ecosystem':
- prepare materials for demo of ICIS, VTI, and AM to representatives of the FAO VME-DB project with the aim of identifying their scope of interest. Provide feedback as tickets on elements where 'enhancements' can be considered.
- reviewed the current capabilities of ICIS in Codelist management and curation for geospatial scenarios, and forwarded comments to CNR as 'enhancement tickets'
- Conducted a review of the proposed VREs and applications, and revised the template to define their scope as 'products'.

T6.2 Virtual Research Environments Resources and Tools Provision
FAO Activities
The FAO activities are related closely to WP3 activities, and sometimes are difficult to distinguish. Where WP3 focuses on analysis and bringing coherence, WP6 focuses on deployment. The alignment of the activities in both WP's evidences the emerging of a software development cycle involving external entities. Activities where WP3 has already achieved technical development status:
- Initiated the external Codelist manager that will extend the existing CL Management facility
- Discused requirements with a.o. FAO-CIO, AgInfra, BoI (WP3)
- Started an Os Project (WP6)
- Released next version of OpenSDMX (reported also under WP3)
- Support for compression of SDMX Generic format datasets for the Repository and Registry, see (HowTo)
- SDMX client with support for compression of SDMX Generic format datasets for the Repository
- SDMX client: streaming is supported for SDMX 2.0 Generic dataset
- SPREAD discussion on moving elements into the e-Infrastructure (WP3) / improve interoperability with ICIS and geospatial data in the e-Infrastructure (WP6 )

CNR Activities
CNR team worked in the direction to produce a scalable interface, respect to the results obtained from a search on different species data sources. With the new version of the Species Discovery Interface, results are no more loaded entirely on the browser but are paged. Furthermore a new Darwin Core exporting format for the occurrence points has been introduced.

T6.3 Virtual Research Environments Common Interfaces and Tools
CNR Activities
CNR activity focused on the deployment of release gCube 2.8.1 and the development and testing of the new gCube Portlets and enhancement to the Resource Management Portlet (RMP)
Specifically:
- A Runtime Resource Creator Portlet is now available for developers with add/edit/delete features.
- A re-engineered and re-designed Workspace portlet is being tested for release gCube 2.9.0.
- The Report & Template portlets have been updated, and are currently under development to support the new workspace portlet.
- The Resource Management Portlet (RMP) has been partially restyled, new features have been added such as the possibility to see the status of the infrastructure nodes (gHNs) more clearly.
- Bug fixes on Aquamaps Generation and Time Series Manager Portlets.

- The RMP enhanced version is available at monitor.d4science.research-infrastructures.eu/
- The RMP enhanced version and the fixed bug versions for Aquamaps and Timeseries are part of gCube 2.8.1 and are available at the iMarine Production Portal portal.i-marine.d4science.org
NKUA Activities
NKUA activities are focused on the update and test of the SearchManager portlet due to Resource Registry changes. Minor issues are identified and the portlet is ready to be released.
