This WP6 Activity Report described the activities performed in March 2012 by Beneficiary and Task.
It is part of the March 2012 Activity Report.
T6.1 Virtual Research Environments Operation
CNR Activities
The major activity performed in the period is about the operation of the Virtual Research Environments deployed in the previous period.
No deviation to report.
The beneficiary should report here a bullet list highlighting the main achievements of the reporting period
FAO Activities
FAO is in the process of contracting the services of a consultant to collect and harmonize capture statistics with target users in Africa and the Pacific. This requires discussion the opportunities offered through the ICIS VRE and the wider e-Infrastructure.
Part of the tasks of the consultant will be to prepare a feed-back and requirements collection mechanisms for:
- End-users,
- Data managers,
- Codelist managers,
- Developers.
In addition, FAO discussed the opportunity of using D4S technologies as a platform for the existing VRMF application for a global registry of vessels and the management of their details over multiple dimensions (space, time, ownership, physical characteristics).
None to report.
A ToR will be sent to the identified ICIS VRE related consultant
The potential for VRMF 'hosting' in the infrastructure was agreed. The effort to plan a cost-effective migration of (parts of) the application will now have to be negotiated in the CoP.

CNR Activities
The Species Discovery Interface Portlet has been enhanced with new features. A more complex management of occurrence points has been introduced, along with a feature for displaying them on a map. Inspection of occurrence points details is now possible and data can be saved on the d4Science workspace. Effort was even made about the design of the views described in M4.
no deviations from the plans.
- Management of occurrence points
- production of occurrence points maps
- interaction with the workspace
- enhancement of the views
FIN Activities
FIN worked on new versions of input tables needed to generate AquaMaps on the VRE. Two new HCAF tables are now available for differnt IPCC scenarios.
The beneficiary should report here major issues faced in the reporting period and the identified corrective actions, if any.
- a new HCAF (Half-Degree Cell Authority File) table for the IPCC A1B scenario was completed (GFDL CM2.1 model), including new 2100 environmental parameter fields.
- a new HCAF table for the IPCC A2 scenario was completed (IPSL model), including new 2100 environmental parameter fields.

T6.3 Virtual Research Environments Common Interfaces and Tools
CNR Activities
CNR activity focused on the deployment od release gCube 2.8.0. Specifically the iMarine production portal has been upgraded (from Liferay 5 to Liferay 6) and deployed and gCube portlets, belonging to release gCube 2.8.0, have been successfully tested and deployed on it.
Besides:
- A re-engineered and re-designed Workspace portlet is currently under development.
- A new remove from scope (for all resource types) feature is available for the Resource Management Portlet (RMP).
The beneficiary should report here major issues faced in the reporting period and the identified corrective actions, if any.
- The iMarine Production Portal is available at portal.i-marine.d4science.org
- The RMP enhanced version is available at monitor.d4science.research-infrastructures.eu/
NKUA Activities
NKUA activites were focused on fixing issues on several portlets that appeared after the 2.8.0 release
- In seach portlets the refinement of previous queries results are handled in a different way in order to avoid possible errors while searching.
- User Management portlet email notifications mechanism is enhanced
- Search portlet bug fixing and different approach regarding the query refinement
