This WP6 Activity Report described the activities performed in July 2013 by Beneficiary and Task.

T6.1 Virtual Research Environments Operation

CNR Activities

Deployment of two new VREs: iSearch and TBTI (#1923);

Completion of D6.4 Virtual Research Environments Activity Report

Maintenance of VREs Wiki pages;

  • Two new VREs have been deployed: iSearch and TBTI;
  • D6.4 Virtual Research Environments Activity Report completed;

FAO Activities

  • A request for a VRE specific to the TBTI community was produced #1923. The VRE will aim to satisfy the TBTI needs for user surveys and location based inventories of fisheries and capacity.
    • Several users requests were accepted for such VRE; collaborative environment, WS features, map-display
    • while others were not; social tools, universal log-in
    • or require further WP3 follow up; On-line survey, map display of expertise, map editing of marine fisheries

TBTI VRE was produced, and discussed with the EA-CoP behind. More features are needed before it will be accepted for active exploitation.

T6.2 Virtual Research Environments Resources and Tools Provision

FAO Activities

  • F.Fiorellato schedules 10-12 WD iMarine activity; tickets #1311, #1312, #1893, #1913, #2016 cover the activity on species name reconciliation service.
  • F.Simeoni (backend) / F.DeFaveri (UI-backend interaction) / T. Chotepatasri (UI Design) continued on Cotrix; tickets #1915, and #1916

  • F.Fiorellato published a first version of the species matching service based on his earlier FAO work on vessle matching
  • The Cotrix backend can import / publish with serveral services, including through Virtual repository

ERCIM Activities

CNR Activities

SPD plugins have been updated to the new version of SPD service where was implemented a retry logic in case of failures.

TM plugins:

  • reduced pending connections in OAI-TM-Plugin #643
  • fixed issue in FIGIS-TM-Plugin initialization: there was a problem in the Runtime Resource retrieval #1845



  • SPD plugins updated

  • Correct Initialization for FIGIS-TM-Plugin

IRD Activities

Semantic cluster:

  • Update of tuna atlas according to the new TLO warehouse:
    • update of SPARQL queries related to the different sections of the fact sheets.
    • Improvement of the application Web pages.

Geospatial cluster:

  • first attempt to reuse Terradue javascript WPS client into an IRD Website (related to our use case "the Tuna Atlas").
    • improving the time response of large WFS dataset (through materialized views)
    • new process (named i11:Atlas_i11_catchesBycountry) which builds for a species a map of 5x5° with relative contribution of countries for total catches in each square.

T6.3 Virtual Research Environments Common Interfaces and Tools

CNR Activities

The CNR activity focused on the development and the release of the following software applications:

On News Feed component the following enhancements:

  • Mentioned people are html anchored in feeds: #1911
  • NewsFeed to open post separately #1818

On Messages component:

  • The Folder attachments possibility was removed as Sharing is now available this feature was no longer necessary, Related ticket: #1907

On Calendars:

  • The existing Liferay Calendar portlet was extended to support iMarine User Notifications for creation, update and delete of events, Related ticket: #1906

On Reports:

  • Add line breaks in Instructions and Comments #1851
  • fixed bug on showing scroll in string text Related ticket: #1852
  • fix of css styles for headers as requested by FAO Related ticket: #1853

On Workspace Tree, Workspace Portlet components

  • Provide support for public link, Related ticket: #1993
  • Link sharing and public link: generate a human-readable URL via URL shortening, Related ticket: #1921
  • Fixed bug on shared links, Ticket #630

On Geo Explorer Portlet

  • Read default layers in the related RR, Releated ticket: #1925

On Species Discovery Portlet

  • Enhancements on GUI of SPD portlet was realized (view last query, new expand button are available)
  • The functionalities was updated in order to fit the changes in the service client. New advanced options are now available: "Expand with synonyms", "Unfold the taxa group by".

On Home Library

  • Added:
    • public link (just for file)
    • operation "move" for folders and files
    • operation "add" in folder history #632
    • operation "update" in file history (overwrite operation) #627
  • Fixed bug in messaging facility #637
  • Completed Admin guide for JackRabbit installation and configuration Wiki_url #849

On Trendylyzer:

  • the interface was finalized in agreement with Unesco and officially released in gCube 2.16.0.

  • All the fix and enhancements were deployed in gCube 2.16.0
  • Official release of the Trendylyzer portlet in gCube 2.16.0

NKUA Activities

NKUA activities include:

  • FullText and Forward index management portlets are enhanced to offer the functionality to delete an index of a specific collection and not the whole index node
  • Collections Navigator portlet has been updated to improve the performance when collections are loading and to fix a bug related to the "back" button of the browser (Related ticket: #680)
  • Results portlet bug fixing, related to the displayed query
  • Advanced visualization modes of GisViewer interactive layers are determined upon their initialization and no further information is needed to run.


Some obsolete components have been removed from the releases:

  • Data Transformation Administration portlet
  • Geo Index management portlet
  • Ontology Administration portlet


Released the following components in 2.16.0 release:

  • Search portlet 3-1-0
  • Results portlet 5-2-0
  • IRBootstrapper portlet 2-3-0
  • UsersManagement portlet 1-8-2
