This WP8 Activity Report described the activities performed in February 2013 by Beneficiary and Task.

T8.1 iMarine Data e-Infrastructure Enabling-technology Development

CNR Activities

  • CNR worked in collaboration with FAO on the redesign of registry-publisher and implemented a new version of the component that will be released with the gCube milestone 2.14. Registry publisher allows the registration of gCube resources using the FWS related library common-gcore-resources and ic-client (#1306).
  • CNR worked in collaboration with FAO on the redesign of common-encryption and implemented a new version of the component that is going to be released with gCube 2.13 (march). The common-encryption library substitutes common-utils-encryption and it offers DES encryption functionalities for strings (#1207).

FAO Activities

In this reporting period, FAO has been mainly involved in maintenance, support, and training activities. In particular:

  • FAO has worked in close collaboration with CNR towards the redesign of registry-publisher, identifying the main design and implementation requirements and detailing solutions that met those requirements. CNR has implemented a new version of the component accordingly (cf. #1306).
  • FAO has worked in close collaboration with CNR towards the design of a new common-encryption component, identifying the main design and implementation requirements and detailing solutions that met those requirements. CNR has implemented the first version of the component accordingly (cf. #1207).
  • FAO has prepared an online training on the rationale and use MyContainer and it has delivered it online to a number of developers from CNR, ENG, and NKUA.
  • FAO has developed version 1.1.0 of the common-gcore-stubs component of the FWS, which delegates handling of outgoing calls to an arbitrary number of dynamically discovered call handlers. The component will be included in gCube 2.14 (cf. #1387). A first application of the mechanism will allow Engineering of securing outgoing calls (#341,#1261).
  • FAO has developed version 1.2.0 of common-scope and version 1.0.0 of a new common-configuration-scanner component, which allow scope management without support of 3rtd party dependencies that proved difficult to integrate in deployment platforms (gHN, portal) (cf. #1386).
  • FAO has supported Engineering on the broad matters of integration with the FWS and on the specifics of using MyContainer for integration testing of security solutions (#1334).
  • FAO has engaged in daily routine activities of maintenance and support across all the components that it produced in the previous months.

T8.2 iMarine Data e-Infrastructure Policy-oriented Security Facilities

E-IIS Activities

The activities of February have been dedicated to the modification of gCube Security Stack (vo-management package), to be compliant with the new fws (#341,#1261), in particular clients based on this stack (common-security) must be able to interact with GHNs using GSS. The operation has lead to several issues on TLS based authentication, the most of which were due to a problem on one of the libraries of the GHNs (#1334). The problem has been solved with the collaboration of FAO and CERN and, apart from the consequent delay, the integration tests have been continued completing TLS based authentication.


Integration issues between fws and GSS and bug on criptix library used. The problems have been solved but introduced a delay of about two weeks. The activities planned for February will be completed by the first half of March.

T8.3 Workflow Management Facilities

NKUA Activities

During February, Workflow Orchestrator Layer implementation has started (#1276). WOL will be responsible for executing DAG of jobs and monitoring the overall progress. PE2ng Operators implementation has progressed (#1256). We improved the performance of PE2ng when it comes to transfer invocations of JDL adaptor, by organizing transfers in small groups, instead of one at a time (#1270). Finally, a bug in Execution Node Collocation has been fixed (#1082) and other bugs that have been resolved are (#549), (#1263).
