WP7: Enabling-technology Integration and Distribution

WP Leader: E-IIS - Participants: CNR, NKUA

In the reporting period E-IIS coordinated integration of release gCube 2.10.0. Several components have been released in this release in order to prepeare the first project's review. During integration of the release 25 integration builds have been executed plus several partial builds to quickly verify fixes for integration issues. E-IIS upgraded the testing infrastructure with new version of gHN bundle, Resource Manager version 2.0.0 and Software Gateway 1.1.0. The infrastructure has been used to carry out deployment tests for gCube 2.10.0 During first half of the reporting period integration build scripts have been updated to execute partial builds and BTRT has been updated to show up results from those builds.

CNR prepared and released a new version of gHN distribution that has been inclued in gcube 2.10.0. CNR also migrated most of released components to Maven.

WP8: iMarine Data e-Infrastructure Enabling Technology Development

WP Leader: CNR - Participants: NKUA, E-IIS, FAO

After the deviation reported on M10, T8.1 resumed and finalized the work on Resource Manager 2.0 (RM2). The service has passed a comprehensive testing phase. Integration with its clients also provided valuable feedback and raised some minor issues that were fixed along. A new feature has been added upon request of VREModeler service: a timer for managing longer sessions. Thus, RM2 has been released as part of gCube 2.10.0. As support to RM2's client, T8.1 also supervised the implementation of the new Deployment/Undeployment Tests to be executed by WP7 on gCube 2.10. The other major achievement of the period was the release of the VREModeler Service fully functionality-oriented.

T8.1 has also released maven-service-plugin 1.1.0 in gcube-externals (outside the release of gCube), which now supports the generation of full GAR artefacts for manual deployment. This was performed as a basic step towards simplified installation of enabling services in testing and production infrastructures.

T8.2 has continued the implementation GCube Security Handler: in order complete this activity, several clients implementing SAML Enhanced Client or Proxy profile have been tested. This activity is currently in an advanced stage. Moreover, T8.2 members attended the EGI technical Forum in Prague where they provided a presentation of SOA3.

T8.3 focused on the integration with the minor release of gCube 2.10. Work has been done on the transition of three library components from ant to maven. The adaptor of the search system was ported from java logger to slf4j. Also, bug fixing and extensive testing took place. Finally, according to WP7 guidelines and the new distribution procedure, the following components have been transformed to Maven: StorageSystem, ReportingFramework and WorkflowSearchAdaptor.

T8.4 has nothing to report.

T8.2 has slight delay in the implementation of GCube Security Handler. It should be completed by mid October.

WP9: Data Management Facilities Development

WP Leader: CNR - Participants: NKUA, CERN, TERRADUE, FAO

  • In T9.1:

FAO oversaw the integration builds of the tree-based access components submitted for release in 2.10.0. FAO prepared a presentation for the upcoming TCOM on the integration of tree-based access components within the rest of the system. FAO supported CNR in the development of the tree-manager plugin for the species-products-discovery service.

CNR focused on introducing the ability to execute jobs in Species Discovery Service to create Darwin Core Archives by taxonomy ids, Darwin Core Archives retrieving children by taxonomy ids; CSV files and specific CSV files for Open Modeler.

  • In T9.2:

CERN released a new version of the data transfer components for gCube 2.10.0. In addition an implementation of a Data Transfer Portlet started. NKUA worked on performance tests on Application Support Layer Search. Terradue worked on the WPSClient. A first stable version is available and ready to be delivered. This is based on the 52 North WPSClient libraries and offers a Java library and a Command Line interface.

  • In T9.3:

CNR studied the SDMX registry. They developed a simple prototype registry with REST interface capabilities that manage SDMX 2.1 documents only, storing data with gCube storage service (mongoDB). CNR enhanced the Tabular Data Widget by adding support for MySQL dialect. Furthermore they added support to column sorting and to multiple instance of TDW in same application.

No deviations to report.

  • Jobs can now be executed on the Species Discovery Service
  • Better understanding of SDMX technologies
  • First prototype of a REST SDMX registry
  • Improvement of TDW with new supported Database and features

WP10: Data Consumption Facilities Development

WP Leader: NKUA - Participants: CNR, FORTH, TERRADUE, FAO

During this month, the integration activity of XSearch with gCube has continued focusing on the usage of gCube ResultSet (gRS2) by the former, potential issues in memory management (tickets #627,#628) and the addressing of remaining issues. The three conference calls (12/9, 17/9, 25/9) which were organized for this reason during this month facilitated discussions and helped in maintaining the activity's progress. A performance evaluation of the entire stack over gRS2 which is used by XSearch was performed in order to provide exact timings of the incurred overheads. The evaluation targeted the 3rd TCom meeting and its aim was to show that memory consumption can be minimized while retaining the real-time user experience of XSearch. Moreover, the first steps towards providing uniform result ranking by the gCube Search System have been taken while the topic is still under investigation and discussion has started in ticket #684.

In the context of Data Visualization, work has continued on the tiffUploader algorithm and the development of WPSClient, a command line utility used for testing all WPS processes.

Finally, there has been activity regarding the current release cycle of gCube 2.10.0, with the release of new versions of software and the resolution of integration issues. This release included new versions of Search System components, the Operator Library, Data Transformation components as well as a number of components which were included in the release to solve integration issues. A number of bug fixes and enhancements performed in the Search System and Data Transformation was also included in the versions released in gCube 2.10.0.

The major issues faced in the reporting period and the identified corrective actions should be reported here

  • Release of Search System components in gCube 2.10.0
  • Release of OpenSearch components in gCube 2.10.0
  • Release of Data Transformation components in gCube 2.10.0

WP11: Data e-Infrastructures Integration and Interoperability Facilities Development

WP Leader: NKUA - Participants: CNR, CERN, E-IIS, FORTH, TERRADUE, FAO

During the 9th month of the project, work in WP11 focused on various tasks that relate to the extension of the Integration and Interoperability framework, the launching of new activities and the enhancement of the already implemented technology within the WP objectives.

Within the boundaries of CL interoperability layer, the CL framework was released for gCube 2.10.0, across its generic and gCore-specific libraries, and various issues revealed by release builds were fixed. Alongside the framework, the Data Transfer Scheduler CL has been released and improvements have been performed on the client library for Data Transfer Agent. Moreover, the implementation of common-security library was continued and is intended to be completed within the following period of the project.

In the context of the WP, a new activity was launched, to collect the web specifications that relate to the project's software, and a wiki area was established for its conduction. Within the activity, all partners are invited to fill in information related to one's domain in the project, following the clear methodology described for carrying out the procedure. A set of specifications falling under the Data Consumption, Data Transfer, Monitoring and Accounting functional areas has already been collected.

Finally, the design of the integration of the standard SRU protocol within gCube has started. The integration is intended to be in line with the current implementation for OpenSearch.

  • Search-library has not yet been released since the integration with the rest of the system components has not yet been completed.

  • A first version of the Data Transfer Scheduler Library has been released for gCube 2.10.0.
  • An upgraded version of the Data Transfer Agent Library has been released for gCube 2.10.0.
  • Establishment of wiki page for the collection of the Web-Specifications, related to gCube software.
