This activity report documents the activities performed in November and December 2011. It is integral to Activity Report of the period.

T4.1 Communication and Dissemination

Trust-IT Activities

  • iMarine graphic design and branding activities (generation of flyers, badge templates, ppt template, post cards, business cards, pop-up banners, poster, logos and deliverable template).
  • Generation of content for flyers, articles, news items, press releases and project fact sheet and powerpoint presentation.
  • Circulation of content to project partners, iMarine Board members and press contacts with the results listed below.
  • Other activities performed during the period include Social networking, video interviews recorded at Kick-off meeting, edited and uploaded on channel.
  • The D4.1 Communication, Dissemination & Training Plan deliverable is being generated and involved considerable desk research and planning. At the same time both the iMarine Dissemination and the press and media databases are being generated and maintained.
  • Meetings with CNR were held to define the iMarine terminology and how the D4S e-infrastructure and other components will be communicated over the project lifetime.


Delay on D4.1 Communication, Dissemination & Training Plan, will be discussed and defined during the first 3 weeks of January 2012.


The project branding (including project and iMarine Board logos, flyer, poster, business card and pop-up banner graphic design) has been designed and delivered to the consortium.

Communication content generated: 1 article, 3 short texts, 1 video interview and various iMarine channel sections.

iMarine in the News - 10 news items and/or articles were published on iMarine in various on-line media channels as a result of the Nov - Dec 2011 Dissemination & Communication activities

CNR Activities

  • Preparation of a news about the iMarine kick-off to be published on the CNR website
  • Interview with a journalist to provide him with the necessary information for the preparation of an article on CORDIS Technology Market Place. Review of the draft version of the article.
  • E-mailing of Season’s greetings to representatives of several projects and initiatives.
  • Review article published on ERCIM news.
  • Participation to a meeting with Trust-It to define and clarify the terminology and the entities acting in the iMarine Data Infrastructure.
  • Preparation of a document clarifying what is D4Science e-Infrastructure in terms of components, technology, and services; who has used D4Science so far; how the D4Science e-Infrastructure benefits user communities; how the D4Science e-Infrastructure benefits technologists and computer scientists; the policies regulating data provisioning to the D4Science e-Infrastructure.
  • Preparation of an article “Dealing with Tabular Data in a Large Scale Data Infrastructure” by L. Candela, G. Coro and P. Pagano, Submitted to the Italian Conference on Digital Libraries, IRCDL 2012.

NKUA Activities

  • Preparation of a number of slides for iMarine Information Retrieval and Process Execution technology that has been included in Yannis Ioannidis presentation at 8/12/2011 in eScience IEEE Conference at Stockholm (2011)
  • Informal discussions for collaboration with two external projects where NKUA is not involved, to build a bridge among technologies and knowledge. More information if and when agreement is defined.

FAO Activities

During the reporting period FAO was engaged in the establishment of the i-Marine channel, and familiarized with the provided tools and documantation.

Emmanuel Blondel (FAO), presented and Overview of the functionalities and expected products of Spatial Reallocation of catch Data (SPREAD) on 15 Dec 2011 at the FAO CWP Meeting.

T4.2 Knowledge Management Channel

Trust-IT Activities

A static web site was available on line in July 2011 and the dynamic channel was launched at iMarine Kick-off meeting in Nov 2011 for the project partners and the week after the KO made public. The fully-fledged channel is foreseen for end January 2012. The iMarine Board Area which includes a file repository and a discussion forum is available to all iMarine Board members and automatically accessible in the Internal Area of the iMarine Channel to those with access rights. All existing content has been generated and is still being requested from partners, iMarine Board members and generated directly by WP leader.

The first of the three WP4 milestones - MS22 - iMarine Web Channel (PM2) - Project web site is publically available - has been achieved within the appropriate timeframe.

T4.3 User Community Capacity and Competence Building

FAO Activities

During the reporting period, i-Marine VRE's were demonstrated and it's potential discussed at:

  • The CWP, a high-level meeting of RFB's,
  • The Vulnerable Marine Ecosystem Database meeting in Rome.

For both meetings, specific facilities to manage spatially explicit data was discussed, and collaboration with i-Marine will be seriously negotiated.
